Banned

When a person says “banned” on social media, this refers to the account owner banning access to the owners account or live streaming event. Bans are permanent and you will no longer be able to view the account owners content.

Based

In slang, “based” means to be authentic, courageous, and unbothered by others’ opinions, essentially being yourself without caring what others think. It can also mean that you agree with something or find it cool and well-reasoned. The term originated with rapper Lil B, who redefined it from its earlier, negative connotations related to drug addiction to be a term of positive self-expression.

Cooked or Get Cooked

In today’s slang, cooked usually means someone is exhausted, overwhelmed, disoriented, or mentally/physically out of it. It’s kind of like when your brain’s done for the day.

Gaslighting

Gaslighting is a form of emotional abuse where a manipulator makes a person question their own sanity, memories, and reality. It involves a range of manipulative techniques like denying facts, trivializing feelings, and attacking a person’s credibility to gain power and control. The term comes from the 1938 play Gas Light, in which a husband subtly makes his wife believe she is going insane by changing parts of their home environment while denying that anything has changed.

L = Lost

In slang, “L” stands for “loss” and is used to signify a defeat, failure, or a negative outcome. It can also refer to a “loser.

Pivot

In slang, to “pivot” means to change direction or strategy abruptly, especially in response to new information or changing circumstances. It often implies a swift and decisive shift from a previous plan, position, or opinion to a new one, while retaining some continuity with the past.

Running

In slang, “running” most commonly means to flee or escape, particularly in the phrase “do a runner”.

Straw man

A “straw man” can refer to a person who acts as a cover for a transaction, or, more commonly, it describes a fallacious argument where a person misrepresents an opponent’s argument to make it easier to attack. This rhetorical fallacy distorts the original position by exaggerating, simplifying, or taking it out of context, then refutes this fabricated version instead of the actual one.

W = Won

In slang, “W” means “win” or “winning,” used to celebrate success or a positive outcome, often on social media, in gaming, or in the sneaker community.
